Discover year round outdoor recreation at Keppoch Mountain.
The final piece of the puzzle has been fitted! Thanks to the generous contribution of the Municipality of the County of Antigonish, Keppoch has all funds in place to complete its 2017-2019 Capital Works Project by Fall. We are grateful to the County for their trust in Keppoch over many years to provide recreational opportunities to those in our region and beyond. Without their initial and continued support, this would not have been possible.
This project has improved and expanded the trail network, expanded Keppoch’s boundaries, and enhanced our base area. It sets the stage for a world class facility that attracts investment and membership from all over Nova Scotia and outside our province. We will continue to partner, collaborate and work to develop opportunities in our region for healthy, accessible and outdoors activities.
When P.A.K. started in 2010 to encourage the use of Keppoch Mountain and promote the natural beauty of the region, the amount of community support we would receive was unforeseen. We offer a heartfelt thanks to our neighbours, members and users. Your insight and contributions have contributed to creating this asset in our community.
Many financial supporters have helped make this possible. This includes:
Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
The Town of Antigonish
Nova Scotia’s Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage
The Sisters of Saint Martha
Farmer’s Mutual Insurance
S&D Smith Central Supplies
Tim Horton’s Antigonish
County of Antigonish
John David MacIsaac
S.W. Weeks Construction
Camerons Lake Association
And our many individual and family donors
WELCOME TO KEPPOCH MOUNTAIN!
Keppoch Mountain is located on the western edge of Antigonish County and has 300 acres of wilderness to enjoy year round. With over 20kms of multi-use trails the Keppoch really opens the door to awesome outdoor activities like cycling, cross-country skiing, geocaching, trail running, hiking and walking. Included in the trail system is our new accessibility loop so those with mobility challenges can still access the wilderness that the Keppoch has to offer.
The great times at the Keppoch are certainly not limited to the summer and fall. Our biggest winter event is the annual Keppoch Family Fun Day. This year was our biggest year yet with over 1100 people in attendance! Last year we expanded our winter activities with a 2km groomed cross country ski loop, this year we look to increase this even more, adding access to >10KM of intermediate to advance cross country and nordic touring ski trails.. There were some new and exciting activities this year including fat tire biking and ski touring demos provided by Highland Bike Shop. Pachamama was also there to provide delicious hot chocolate, Rolling Bricks wood fired pizza oven was on-site and CACL had the barbecue fired up serving sausages and hot dogs.
We encourage everyone to come out to the Keppoch and enjoy the beautiful trail system. Winter is not a time to stay inside, it's time to get dressed up and enjoy the fresh air! You won't regret it. Besides, your hot chocolate will taste that much better when you return to the lodge and warm up by the fire.
How you navigate the winter trails on the mountain is totally up to you. Whether you choose a fat tire bike, snow shoes or cross country skis the Keppoch will not disappoint.
We have snowshoes for rent for all ages and body types. A huge network of trails to explore and also a cross country ski area .
The Keppoch's awesome trail network becomes incredibly smooth when snow starts to fall. Packed by snowshoes and fat bikes our trails create the perfect playground for these big tire bikes. In partnership with Highland Bike Shop we host a fat bike race series !
The Keppoch is pleased to host great events all four seasons of the year. The hottest time of year is always our busiest time of year at the Keppoch of course! Shuttle truck is scheduled to run every Sunday (weather depending) starting early June and going until as far into the fall as we can, as long as there is a demand for the shuttle and the weather cooperates (Usually mid October). The Keppoch hosts a sanctioned Cross Country bicycle race with Bicycle Nova Scotia every year that draws out racers from all over the Province! This year it will take place on July 15th! We also host fun days which featured horse rides, wood fired pizza oven, barbecue, scavenger hunts and lots more in the past! This year we added an accessible trail for those who would like to enjoy nature and prefer a nice wide gravel path over the forest trails.
A new expansion for Keppoch in 2017 is Cameron Lake. Cameron Lake was gifted to us by the Cameron Lake Association to ensure their property was maintained, safe and expanded for many years to come! We already have a floating dock on the lake and have a strong group working on proper railing and signage. This is one of the many benefits of becoming a member! If your interested click here.
There is always so much to do during our family fun day. We've had bicycle demos, horse rides, wood fired pizza, guided hikes, scavenger hunts, crafts and so much more. With Keppoch always growing you will continue to see things added to the list of activities that we offer as time goes. The fun day is one of the best opportunities for you and your family to try Keppoch, Keep a watch on our Calender and facebook page to make sure you make it to the next one!
The Keppoch features more than 30 trails plus the old ski runs, with great views of Antigonish, Beaver Meadow, Cameron Lake and much more Keppoch is prime hiking territory! Also, the common sighting of wildlife and geocache locations make this a hikers dream. Check out our Gallery or hit up the trails to see for yourself.
Whether you're into riding gentle crushed gravel, technical single track, heart pounding climbs, high speed flying downhill or cruising the pump track, the Keppoch has you covered. Our multi-use trail system has something to offer every skill level and riding style. We also encourage everyone with a fat tire bike to get out and test their skills over the winter months. This has been a great new addition to winter activities.
Every weekend throughout the spring and summer downhill mountain bikers meet at the Keppoch to ride the shuttle truck to the summit and cruise down the downhill trails. The Keppoch also hosts downhill events in the summer and fall.
Keep an eye on our calendar for shuttle times and races.
Every year over 150 racers from around Atlantic Canada travel to the Keppoch to test themselves in our annual race, the Highland Grind. Keep an eye on our events calendar to come come out and compete or cheer on the racers.
Riders are also welcome to come out and enjoy our well maintained trails any time of the year. All trails are well marked and rated for skill levels.
