A New Home for Bats at the Keppoch

Exciting news from the Keppock - we've successfully installed our second bat box, this time overlooking the beautiful White Rock Cliffs!

This project was made possible with the help of enthusiastic undergraduate and graduate students from the Biology Department at St. Francis Xavier University, whose teamwork made the installation a great success.

The bat boxes were generously provided through the Young Naturalists Club of Nova Scotia's Bat Box Monitoring Project, helping communities create safe habitat for one of our most important nighttime pollinators and insect controllers. Even more exciting, Keppoch Board member and retired StFX biologist Edwin DeMont has recently completed bat bioacoustic surveys at both Cameron's Lakes and the White Rock Cliffs. The recordings revealed lots of bat activity in both locations - suggesting these forests are an important home for at least two bat species.
