BugQuest Canada at the Keppoch

Keppoch is contributing to BugQuest Canada: national search to uncover biodiversity!

More information is available here: https://bioscan.life/bugquest/

We have two collecting traps at Keppoch, one in a hemlock stand near the lodge and the second beside the parking lot of Shindig Hollow, by the White Rock trail (photos attached), and both will be left in place until the fall. The traps passively direct insects into collecting bottles, which are replaced each week. The bottles will be shipped to the Centre for Biodiversity Genomics at the University of Guelph, where DNA barcoding will be used to identify the species present in each bottle. Sometime in early 2027, we will receive a complete list of all the insects found.

We replace the collecting bottles each Wednesday at around 9:30 am and process them in the Clubhouse. We welcome volunteers to help us with the collection - please drop by to learn more.
